Youngest circumnavigator comes home

A British teenager has become the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe when he returns home later on Thursday.

Mike Perham, from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire set off on November 15 last year on the 30,000 mile trip.

He is expected to take the crown from American Zac Sunderland who was named the youngest to do the same task when he completed his journey in July.

Training

The Club offers all the shore-based RYA training courses.

Tuesday evening Club nights

Tuesday night is the Club night when we have a published programme of lectures, talks or slide shows and afterwards a meal is available at a reasonable price. There will always be a new member's officer on duty, do join him or her if you are by yourself, or want advice, they will be only too pleased to speak to you.

Sailing events

There are regular events to join during the season from April to October. Those who don't want to hang up their oilies for the winter can take part in the monthly fast-cruise series from October to March on the Solent.

We do our best to help new members to get on the water by encouraging new members to sign onto the Skippers and Crew register on the member's section of the website, to meet fellows sailors on a Tueday Club night and to help match skippers and crew for weekend sailing and longer rallies

How the LSC got involved in the Dunkirk little ships

Preparing for war

The 1930s saw increasing evidence of difficulties to come and, as so often seems to be the case, Great Britain was ill-prepared. Breeding a new generation of naval officers and ratings, who have the experience and training to cope with the exigencies of war at sea, takes time.

Club History

The Club owes its formation to a letter to a yachting paper suggesting that during the winter months, then the dead season, many keen sailing people would be glad of an opportunity to get together and swap yarns. So on 5 November 1926 at the Ship Restaurant in Whitehall, 27 enthusiasts met and the Little Ship Club was formed.

Bagheera Boarded

The RYA believes that the Borders Agency has not understood leisure yachting and that their plans could criminalise yachtsmen. LSC member David Clements agrees but thinks he sees a chink of light.
