A Tall Ships spectacle is destined for London this summer as a flotilla of around 20 Tall Ships heads up the Thames on Wednesday 25 July at the start of Sail Royal Greenwich 2012. There are places on board each vessel for paying guests for the parade which starts in Gravesend and brings the fleet to Greenwich. Michelin-starred chefs will be overseeing the food for the day, so don't expect Pemmican and Grog.

Watch the Olympics from your boat

Weymouth harbour aerial viewWeymouth harbour aerial view

Your best chance of seeing the Olympic sailing is to book a berth in Weymouth Harbour or an anchorage in Weymouth Bay. The intial allocation of berths have to be secured by 5 February. After that, remaining berths will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  Go to the online berth application form to apply for a place.

All visitors to the area between 16 July and 7 September next year will need to pre-book, so even if you're not planning to see the sailing events you might want to factor 'out' a stopover at Weymouth next summer if passage-making to the West country or back.
