The Little Ship Club has a long tradition and a unique location on a bank of the River Thames in the heart of the City of London. The modern clubhouse is the base for the Club's shore-based activities, including a highly-regarded RYA training programme and many social events.
The Club has always had two main objectives, social and educational. It provides those with a love of the sea and boats, both sail and power, with a place where they can meet congenial spirits and exchange ideas, and it also gives members the opportunity to learn navigation, seamanship and other skills. From the start it has been an objective of the Club to provide crewing opportunities, at all levels of experience, for members without boats and crews for owners who require them.
Club members are a diverse, international group but all share a common passion: a love of the sea and sailing and actively get together on the water for cruising, rallies and racing. These take place mainly on the East and South Coasts of the UK although many members take part in long-distance cruising to warmer (and colder) waters.
New members are always welcome, the main requirement being at least a passing interest in either sailing or motorboating.
The Club in no way seeks to usurp the functions of coastal sailing clubs: indeed, by stimulating interest in the sport it tends to strengthen their position.
Sailing events
There are regular events to join during the season from April to October. Those who don't want to hang up their oilies for the winter can take part in the monthly fast-cruise series from October to March on the Solent.
By signing up to the Skippers and Crew register it is possible to sail whenever and wherever you want.
Tuesday evening Club nights
Tuesday night is the Club night when we have a published programme of lectures, talks or slide shows and afterwards a meal is available at a reasonable price. There will always be a new member's officer on duty, do join him or her if you are by yourself, or want advice, they will be only too pleased to speak to you.
Entrances
Both the entrance to the Club in Bell Wharf Lane and the River entrance, are accessed using members' key cards. Please carry and use these cards whenever visiting the Club. The Bell Wharf Lane entrance will usually be open on Tuesday evenings until 1930.
