This course provides a comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship and is invaluable to those who wish to learn how to make a real contribution on board, undertake the Day Skipper practical course and are keen to progress to the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster qualification.
Content: Basic seamanship and introduction to navigation and meteorology.
Suggested min. pre-course experience: Some practical experience desirable.
Assumed knowledge: None.
Ability after course: Background knowledge to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day.
Day & Dates : It is now too late to join the one-evening-a-week class for 2008/9, but the course can still be done in the accelerated version which is Wednesday evenings 28th January to 15th April 2009 inclusive and all day Saturdays 7th & 21st February, 7th & 21st March and 4th April.
Price: £155 including the provision of all course materials and an RYA Boat Safety Handbook.
In addition students will require: Portland or Breton Plotter, Nautical Dividers, 2B pencils and an eraser all of which can be purchased from the Club at the start of the course. The Course Leader may suggest additional reading material.
