RYA Day Skipper Course

Dates & price:Wednesday evenings 3rd February to 21st April 2010 inclusive and all day on five Saturdays - 13th and 27th February, 13th and 27th March and 10th April. The price is 180, which includes the provision of all course materials, the RYA Navigation Handbook, the RYA Weather Handbook and a buffet lunch on each of the Saturdays.

Content: This course provides a comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship and is invaluable to those who wish to learn how to make a real contribution on board, undertake the Day Skipper practical course and are keen to progress to the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster qualification.

Suggested minimum pre-course experience: Some practical experience desirable.

Assumed knowledge: None.

Ability after course: Background knowledge to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day.

In addition students will require: Portland or Breton Plotter, Nautical Dividers, 2B pencils and an eraser all of which can be purchased from the Club at the start of the course. The Course Leader may suggest additional reading material.
