Equally valuable to those fascinated by the prospect of navigating by the planets and stars or simply keen to arm themselves with a reliable alternative to electronic navigation, this course unravels the mysteries of the sextant and considers the wide range of practical skills essential to ocean passage making.
Content: Astro navigation, meteorology, passage planning and communications.
Suggested min. pre-course experience: Experience coastal and offshore passage making.
Assumed knowledge: Assumes a knowledge of all subjects covered in the other shorebased courses.
Ability after course: A background knowledge of the planning and implementation of ocean passages.
Day & Dates: Wednesday evenings 17th September to 3rd December 2008 and 7th January to 25th March 2009.
Price: £95 including all course materials.
In addition students will require: Portland or Breton Plotter, Nautical Dividers, 2B pencils and an eraser all of which can be purchased from the Club at the start of the course. The Course Leader may suggest additional reading material.
