This course is available in two formats -
a conventional one-evening-a-week class on Mondays starting in September 2010 and an "accelerated" version of ten Wednesday evenings and all day on five Saturdays starting at the end of January 2011. The exact dates for both will be announced shortly.
The basic price is £195, which includes the provision of all course materials, the RYA Navigation Handbook and the RYA Weather Handbook. The "accelerated" version costs £220 including a buffet lunch on each of the Saturdays.
[Note: this course used to be called the Coastal Skipper/ Yachtmaster Offshore course. The RYA have now renamed the Coastal Skipper qualification as Yachtmaster Coastal, hence this course is now simply the Yachtmaster Shorebased Course.]
Covers Navigation, meteorology, collision avoidance, safety and passage planning. This advanced course is ideal for candidates preparing for the Yachtmaster Coastal Practical Course and essential for those wishing to progress to the Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates of Competence.
Building on the Day Skipper syllabus, this course covers more advanced skills in coastal and offshore navigation and pilotage by day and night. If you own your own boat or are involved in chartering and wish to progress to more ambitious passage making you will find this course invaluable.
In addition students will require
Portland or Breton Plotter, Nautical Dividers, 2B pencils and an eraser all of which can be purchased from the Club at the start of the course. The Course Leader may suggest additional reading material.
