Equally valuable to those fascinated by the prospect of navigating by the planets and stars or simply keen to arm themselves with a reliable alternative to electronic navigation, this course unravels the mysteries of the sextant and considers the wide range of practical skills essential to ocean passage making.

It consists of astro navigation, meteorology, passage planning and communications.

In addition students will require:

Portland or Breton Plotter, Nautical Dividers, 2B pencils and an eraser all of which can be purchased from the Club at the start of the course. The Course Leader may suggest additional reading material.

Experience required:

<p>Experience coastal and offshore passage making.</p>

Ability gained after training:

<p>A background knowledge of the planning and implementation of ocean passages.</p>

Knowledge assumed:

<p>Assumes a knowledge of all subjects covered in the other shorebased courses.</p>
