The Little Ship Club is part of a group of five Thames-based yacht clubs which have combined to organise the 2013 Thames Frostbite Race taking place over two days on Saturday 23 February and Sunday 24 February. The race is open to any boat with a Byron handicap and entries must be submitted by 17 February 2013 with payment.

Greenwich Yacht Club, Erith Yacht Club, Thurrock Yacht Club, Gravesend Sailing Club and the Little Ship Club (the Thames Yacht Racing Association) are the race organisers.

Part 1

The race will start from Greenwich on Saturday 23 February after a briefing at 1000. The start time will not be before 1100. The finish will be at Thurrock Yacht Club.

Part 2

The second part will start from Erith Yacht Club, not before 1000 and finish at Greenwich Yacht Club.

Rules and Sailing Instructions

The Races to be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016 (RRS) and subject to the Port of London Authority Bylaws. The Sailing Instructions may contain modifications to the RRS, and will be available online closer to the race on the website of Greenwich Yacht Club.

Handicap and scoring system  Results will be calculated using the Byron handicap system, from the aggregate of corrected times from both race legs.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • The Brass Monkey Trophy To the club with the best three scoring boats
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place   Overall on Handicap
  • The Denis Trophy  The boat with the longest elapsed time, finishing in the top 4/5ths of the fleet
  • The Tower Cups   Leg 1 & Leg 2 line honours

Moorings and dinner will be available at Erith Yacht Club on the evening of Saturday 23 February. Advance bookings for dinner should be made, please see entry form for details. Yachts wishing to stay overnight at Greenwich Yacht Club on Friday 22 or Sunday 24 must please make appropriate arrangements with the Greenwich Yacht Club Harbourmaster.

A special offer from St Katharine Docks has been negotiated offering boat owners who are taking part in the race berthing at a specially reduced rate of £100 from the weekend before the race until the weekend after. Berthing charges must be settled by the boat owner direct with the St Katharine Docks and proof of race entry will be required to obtain the discounted rate.
