Little Ship Club Member - Maura Pell Receives City Accolade
Little Ship Club is happy to annouce that one of it's members - Maura Pell, has become a freeman of the City of London. Below is a message from her husband, Dr Rodney Pell.
"I am happy and proud to inform the LSC via your goodself that Maura Pell received on 17th September the accolade of 'Freeman of the City of London'.
Maura is 1st Mate and Navigating Officer on 'Sheemaun' [http://littleshipclub.co.uk/gallery/sheemaun-history] Anyway Maura who is an RYA Yachtmaster and Oceanmaster was duly affirmed as regards her contacts and interests in the City of London.
Aside from Maura's enjoyment of cruising 'Sheemaun', one of her great interests and hobbies is to walk and explore the City of London, in particular the London so beloved by Charles Dickens and immortalised in his writings. For Maura the lovely and poignant Little Ship Club Carol Service affords a special occasion in the calendar. Of course, and quite aside from Maura's maritime interests, given this frame of reference there could be no better base than the Little Ship Club.
The Ceremony of the Awarding of the 'Freedom of the City of London' took place at the Guildhall on 17th September, Maura's birthday. Her forebears in this honour include Lord Horatio Nelson, Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela, Helmut Kohl and many others, it was indeed a great honour. Amongst those present was Dr Charles Philips of the City Livery Company.
As Maura's husband I am proud of her recognition within the City of London, appreciative of her navigational skills and steadiness at the helm whether crossing the Channel or cruising the Thames and Estuary.
